NEW Derbyshire Senior & Junior Squad Success

Derbyshire Junior Archery team.

Well done to Hollie, Alex & Jacob who came 2nd compound team. Jacob had to battle through 2 nose bleeds and hay fever but that didn't deter him. You ALL made me very proud. Well done and I hope that you all enjoyed it because I certainly did.

DCAA Juniors

Well done to all the Derbyshire archers who took part in the Tri-Counties today! The recurve team won, the longbow team won, the compound team came second.

DCAA Seniors

Longbow success DCAA

A brilliant effort from all concerned on yet another windy day! Special thanks to Aequus Archers who put on a great tournament with assistance from one or two other Derbyshire archers - you did Derbyshire proud! Thank you from Woody - your team manager!

Congratulations to Eva Henderson-Hirst , Will Bonynge and Struan Caughey who have all worked extremely hard to beselected for the Archery GB Performance Academy at Lillieshall. All 3 are members of Derwent Bowmen and have been on an archery talent identification programme since may 2012. They have met, along with Alex Holmes, as a training group every week since May and have concentrated on Skills & Drills, strength and conditioning and fine tuning their techniques.

They have also attended EMAS squad coaching and the Derbyshire Hotshots coaching sessions which have all helped them to reach their goal of entry to the GB Academy. Much hard work to follow!!

It's that time of year again!

I am looking for all county archers or archers with aspirations to shoot for the county to start sending me their scores for 12 dozen rounds.
For Juniors the rounds need to be appropriate to your age, ie Bristols I, II, III or IV. This is because the Sydney Bond Tournament is a Bristols round.
I will accept scores from open tournaments or rounds shot on your club ground. This applies to both seniors and juniors.

Sydney Bond Tournament is in Northants on July 28th.

Tri-Counties Tournament is the first Sunday in August.

Thoreby Trophy Tournament is the first Sunday in September.

Please email me - [email protected] - along with your GNAS number, discipline, club and mobile number (parent's for juniors please).

Thoresby Trophy - Daventry

County Selection officer, Derek Woodhouse was delighted with the performance that the Derbyshire team put in today at the Daventry Rugby Club ground in Northants against Lincolnshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Nottinghamshire and Northants.

With victories in both compound (total 6174) and longbow (total 1235)and a second place in the recurve discipline (total 10456) the team came away with some excellent trophies too!

Every score played its part and all of the archers pushed the opposition from the very beginning. Andrew Randall took the individual recurve mens first position with 1184. Simon Scott came first compound man with 1252 and Marsie Henderson-Hirst took the first lady compound with a creditable 1246. There were also at least ten PBs on the day too which all points to how well our team performed. Congratulations too to Ashley Parker who put in a PB of 959 to claim his 900 Rose - well done!

Oh yes , I nearly forgot... Dean Hirst added over half of the longbow teams' score on his own!

With a massive 626 not only has Dean created a new County record, a new EMAS record BUT, he has also submitted his score as a possible NEW NATIONAL RECORD!

CSO Derek wants to say 'well done' to ALL of the team members though. Martin Church, Barry Monk, Tony Fletcher, Tim Brough, Geoff Fisher, Paul Cosier, Steve Brunt, and Phil Middleton, Jayne Elliott, Cat Summerfield, Naomi Neighbour, Sue Margett, Jane Henderson-Hirst, Sandra England, Kath Potter and Julie Cousins. Everyone had a great day, coming together
at lunchtime and sharing the mounting excitement throughout the day. Good shooting and cheerful humour completed
the days' success!

Senior Squad Meeting held on Wednesday 9th May at Derwent Bowmen Archery Club.

To all County Archers

A senior squad meeting was held on the evening of Wednesday 9th May at Derwent Bowmen Archery Club.
The weather was somewhat inclement but that did not stop two really keen archers shooting outdoors. The rest of the squad shot indoors – all disciplines were represented and a good evening was had by all.

The next squad meeting is on Saturday 16th June at Derwent Bowmen Archery Club. Depending on the weather I would
like archers to shoot a full round – a FITA – practice at 10am. For all the archers who have not yet been to a squad meeting; then by all means please come along.

I presume that none of you prospective team archers are shooting rounds because up to date I have only received 6 scores. OK, I know it’s only early in the season but I want you to get into the good habit of sending me your scores as you shoot them. Please note that I am expecting more than just your 3 best scores in July. I want to know how you are shooting as the season progresses to assess your form.

Also I have arranged another evening session on Thursday 12th July from 6pm onwards at Derwent Bowmen Archery Club. This should help those of you who can’t make Wednesday evenings.

Regards & Good Shooting!
Woody
